"THE TIME IS ALWAYS RIGHT TO DO WHAT'S RIGHT"

Sunrise: January 15, 1929, Atlanta, GA
TRIBUTE TO DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR
Sunset: April 4, 1968, Memphis, TN

MLK Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. It is a defining moment each year.  What are you doing?

“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr

Featuring Hill Harper

Join WCU’s 2026 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Campus Commemoration, featuring Hill Harper. A week of reflection, service, celebration, and dialogue honoring Dr. King’s legacy while inspiring our campus community to carry his vision forward. As we reflect on Dr. King’s call for justice, service, and the Beloved Community, this year’s commemoration invites us to think about the work still ahead - on our campus, in our communities, and across our nation.

The Student Leader Lounge
Wednesday, January 21
5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
We will kick off the week with a student-centered event designed to engage student leaders and aspiring leaders as they return to campus and begin classes.

Registration is available on RamConnect.

Join the Society of WCU as we recognize the winners of the the Drum Major for Justice, Larry Dowdy Community Service, and Outstanding Student Organization Service Awards.

Be in community to lift each other up as we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr. and service on our campus.

While Dr. King believed the Beloved Community was possible, he acknowledged and fought for systemic change. His example is our call to action.

"In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."

Books by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This resource guide is divided into 10 different categories. Each is designed to give the researcher ideas on how to track down material relating to King's legacy. In the first category is a rare video clip from a 1967 interview with King on the civil rights movement.
