2004-The West Chester Community was renamed to the Charles A. Melton Arts and Education Center in a formal ceremony to honor and pay tribute to the invaluable contributions that Mr. Melton made to the community of West Chester.
Then, Senator Barack Obama became the first presidential candidate to join MSNBC’s Chris Matthews on the 2008 Hardball College Tour yesterday at West Chester University. The candidate spent the hour with Matthews as well as hundreds of students. (4-2-2008)

Ms. Hammond has served the community and the West Chester faithfully as President for the branch.
Mr. James Jennings served the community faithfully as President, from 2014-2016. He currently serves as 1st Vice President.
Pastor, Dr. Wayne E. Croft served the community faithfully as President, from 2017-2019.
Fredda Maddox, a former Pennsylvania state trooper is elected as the first Democratic county sheriff in modern county history in 2019, and its first Black officeholder.

June 2020,
Tuesday, June 2nd about 800 demonstrators met peacefully at the Historic Courthouse steps and then marched to the Borough Hall/Police Station. The demonstrators chanted “I can’t breathe,” which were some of the final words spoken by George Floyd, whose life was snuffed out by a Minneapolis police officer.
On Thursday, June 4, 2020 approximately 5,000 gather peaceful demonstration in support of equality and the Black Lives Matter movement for criminal justice reform. The crowd noise was deafening and startling.
Marchers gathered at the Historic Courthouse to hear several speakers. The event was held in partnership with the West Chester Police Department, the Mayor’s Office, Fredda Maddox and the Chester County Sheriff’s Office, the West Chester NAACP and Lillian DeBaptiste. Mayor-elect Lillian DeBaptiste is sworn in as the first African American Woman Mayor of West Chester Pa.
Mr. Weaver serves as the Vice President for the DEI group at Mid Penn Bank. In that role Mr. Weaver presented a gift to the branch in recognition of Black History Month. The funds were distributed to programs & organizations whose efforts go toward strengthening and
empowering the Black community.

The West Chester Area School Board denied an application by Valley Forge Classical Academy Charter School, based in Exton, to open a charter school in the district.
