POLITICAL ACTION & ADVOCACY

Chairperson: Rev. Dr. Richelle Gunter

The Political Action Committee: (1) seeks to increase registration and voting; (2) works for the enactment of municipal, state and federal legislation designed to improve the educational, political and economic status of minority groups; (3) seeks the repeal of racially discriminatory legislation; (4) works to improve the administration of justice; (5) works to secure equal enforcement of the law; and (6) keeps the National NAACP Office, the NAACP Washington Bureau, and the Branch informed of all proposed legislation which affects minority groups. The Committee is non-partisan and does not endorse candidates for public office.

VOTE- INVOKE YOUR RIGHTS WHAT YOU DON'T USE YOU LOSE

The path to justice requires that we challenge federal, state, and local laws, statutes, & policies.

Through affirmative litigation, we aim to further our mission to ensure equitable treatment and opportunities when it comes to voting rights, education, economic empowerment, criminal justice, and health, including environmental justice.

Learn more about the issues NAACP tackles every day to dismantle racism and build Black political, social, and economic power.

From city halls to the Supreme Court, using advocacy and litigation, we will secure civil rights for everyone. We don't do this work alone.

Senator Cory Booker made history.

On April 1, 2025 Senator Cory Booker made history. He stood on the floor of the Senate for 25 hours and 5 minutes to reclaim democracy and remind Americans that “We, the people “ means all of us.

His personal story of how the great statesman from Georgia, John Lewis’ stand on the Edmond Pettus Bridge on Bloody Sunday, March 7, 1965 resonated all the way to New Jersey, and impacted his family is a testimony to the power that one person can make a difference.

He challenged his colleagues in the Senate to declare that what we have witnessed in these recent days is not democratic or republican, it is simply wrong! He encouraged each of them to choose what is right and to get into “good trouble”. He invited the Senate not to stand alone but together and Senator Cory Booker smashed Storm Thurmond’s record setting 1957 filibuster against integration!

In the days to come I hope that you will consider your moment to stand, stand with your community and stand with a local branch of the NAACP. Join us making “good trouble”!

Blessings,
President Richelle Foreman Gunter

Your Vote Always Matters

municipal elections

We face unprecedented challenges to voting rights and civil liberties. It's crucial that we understand how our active participation in these democratic processes can directly shape the future of civil rights and equality in America.

At Stake

Rising Discrimination:

  • We're seeing more open bigotry and discrimination. This threatens the progress we've made towards a fair society.
  • Misunderstanding Racism: Some people are misusing terms like "reverse racism." This makes it harder to address real inequalities in our system. Remember, racism isn't just personal prejudice - it's about power and who has historically been denied it.
  • Changes in Our Courts: Recent judicial appointments could lead to decisions that weaken civil rights protections. This could affect many aspects of our lives.

What Can You Do?

  1.  Stay Informed: Learn where candidates stand on civil rights. Don't just listen to sound bites - dig deeper!
  2. Vote: Your vote is your voice. Use it in every election, big or small.
  3. Speak Up: Talk to your representatives. Let them know you care about equality and justice.

Remember, your participation helps shape a better future for everyone in our community. Every voice counts!

The NAACP's mission is more vital than ever in the current political climate of our nation.

THE 2025 MANDATE FOR LEADERSHIP

NAACP President Johnson reacts to

 President-elect Trump’s Cabinet Appointments.

From accused criminals to confirmed authors of Project 2025, the President-elect's cabinet appointments present a daunting outlook for the next four years". Proposed policies under Project 2025 include significant rollbacks in regulatory protections, reductions in social welfare programs, the dismantling of the federal civil service workforce, and ban any focus on equity. It's implementation threatens to reverse decades of progress in civil rights, social justice, and equity, particularly impacting Black and marginalized communities.

Let's be clear - Our 2025 should be a year that advances the progress made in the last four years, not seek to revert it." —

Addressing the Disastrous Impacts of Project 2025 on the Black Community

Resolution

"When I take off my uniform, will I be safe from harm—
Or will you do me as the Germans did the Jews?
When I've helped this world to save, shall I still be color's slave?
Or will Victory change, Your antiquated views?"

                     Langston Hughes

Since its establishment in 1971, the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) has been committed to using the full Constitutional power, statutory authority, and financial resources of the federal government to ensure that African Americans and other marginalized communities in the United States have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream. As part of this commitment, the CBC has fought for the past 48 years to empower these citizens and address their legislative concerns.
